Our singers represent the rich tapestry that is San Antonio!
Empowering youth through music since 1983
Under the direction of Artistic Director Ryan Garrison, CCSA’s citywide community choruses in conjunction with its early childhood music program provide inspirational and transformative musical experiences for young people from birth through young adulthood. CCSA currently serves over 450 engaged, talented and dedicated young artists in our three divisions. Our singers represent the rich tapestry that is San Antonio!
The Children’s Chorus of San Antonio is dedicated to enriching and expanding the experiences of young people through choral singing and musical performance.
As a resident company of the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts, CCSA’s commitment to artistic excellence, social inclusion, and individual responsibility empowers young singers to embrace and explore a broader, more positive view of self and the world.
The Children’s Chorus of San Antonio was founded in 1983 with the mission to bring the highest quality of choral music education and performance opportunities to the young people of greater San Antonio. During our first season, we consisted of a single choir of 33 children that rehearsed and performed at UTSA. Capturing the attention of families in San Antonio, we filled a void in the city’s music education system by providing the first children’s community choir.
Since then, we have blossomed into three different divisions that serve more than 400 young people: our core ensembles, early childhood music and movement classes, and community outreach programs. Today, we have two sets of choirs: training and advanced ensembles. These ensembles are, to this day, our “core” division, rehearsing weekly and performing in high-quality, public concerts around town.
Our Three Divisions
Currently comprised of more than 400 students, our training and performance ensembles are the cornerstone of our organization. As our core division, these choirs have engaged thousands of young people with diverse choral repertoire at the highest levels of musical excellence. Our ensembles consist of boys and girls ages 5-22 and provide a comprehensive and challenging curriculum of performance-based instruction that ranges from the basics of vocal technique to music literacy and history, all accomplished using a wide and balanced repertoire.
We recognize, though, that many families do not have the ability to reach us through our traditional programs and locations, nor do they have regular access to music; thus, we bring our choral music education to them! Our second division, Neighborhood Choirs (NC), is our tuition-free community outreach program that provides the opportunity for San Antonio, South San Antonio, Edgewood, and Harlandale ISD elementary and middle school students to participate in free after-school choir classes, right in their own neighborhoods. They experience inspiring musical moments using the same repertoire and instructors as our core ensembles
Music Together® ,our third division, is an internationally recognized early childhood music and movement program. Children and grownups joyfully share songs, rhymes, movement, and instrument play in a relaxed, playful, and non-performance-oriented setting. Music Together is scientifically proven to plant the seeds of success in our little ones through music and movement classes. Music Together offers three types of classes to target developmentally different age groups: Babies Class for infants ages birth to 9 months, Mixed-Age Class for children ages birth to 5, and Big Kids Class for children ages 5 to 7.
