Our singers are nearing the end of the first week of rehearsals on the upcoming production of Carmen by OPERA San Antonio. We continue our blog series today with our latest ensemble member: Maddie Trevino!
What’s the coolest part of the rehearsals so far?
The coolest thing has been working with all of the choreographers and directors – and conductors!
How do you think this experience will impact you in the future?
It’s going to improve my self confidence – being able to be on stage in front of so many people does that.
How does it feel performing on a full fledged opera set?
I haven’t been involved in anything professional like this before, but I’ve been in a couple musicals and this is really awesome. My previous experiences helped prepare me for this a bit, but it’s still really different. My theater teachers helped me a lot, but this still feels like a very new experience.
What is different about opera rehearsals from CCSA rehearsals?
You definitely have to work a lot harder, and put a lot of commitment into the words and the movement. You have to do a lot of the work on your own between rehearsals, because the opera rehearsals go by so quickly.
Which part of the opera are you most looking forward to?
I’m looking forward to seeing the production come together, and how it all connects when everyone is on the stage!
Maddie is a member of CCSA’s Youth Academy Treble ensemble and is in her second season with the organization. She is an eighth grader at Garner Middle School.
